At Techbilt, we have a six-decade track record of outstanding work performed with integrity.
We do what we say. Treat our clients fairly and honestly. And value our employees, which lets us hold on to highly skilled craftsmen for decades. (In fact, some are even second-generation employees.) Our conscious decision to stay mid-sized allows us to maintain both quality and affordability. Because we’re accountable to clients, not stockholders, we can bring an attention to detail that results in exceptional projects of every size.
Techbilt and its sister corporations are among the oldest family-owned companies to build homes in San Diego. We’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings in 1958. But we’ve never lost the vision of our founder, Paul Tchang. Emigrating from China in 1941, he overcame wartime adversity to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from M.I.T. and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
After working in the Northeast, he moved to California and and began building much needed, high-quality but affordable VA/FHA homes in San Diego, eventually branching out to mid-priced and luxury homes.
Tchang was always hands-on, a stickler for details, and honest—traits that grew the business and its sterling reputation for quality. Through his service to the industry, Tchang earned a lifetime directorship in the California Building Industry Association (CBIA) and the San Diego BIA’s coveted Lee Hubbard Award.
Although he passed away in 2013, his vision lives on. His son, Ted Tchang, and daughter, Jenny Tchang Frost, strive every day to match their father’s commitment to service, quality and integrity.
